Today is day seven of living on an island. I love it here, although I miss flushing toilets. I love the fact that there are no critters like raccoons, deer, bear etc, just lots of bugs, mostly bees, wasps and mosquitoes. I woke up this morning and it was really foggy out and extremely damp. The sun never ended up coming out which was a pity since it was supposed to be super hot and nice out, I kind of wanted to go for a swim. When the girls woke up we had breakfast and after breakfast we put on our rubber boots and went for a walk in the “forest” and picked blueberries, raspberries and black current berries. I have never had such juicy delicious fruit in my life, no sugars, and no preservatives; just fresh wild berries. Alice made she told me of the dangerous berries that I was not allowed to eat and if I did I would get really sick and die.
The other day we had some strawberries that HAD to be eaten up or they would go bad and have to be thrown out. Nobody was eating them so I decided to be creative and make a strawberry sauce for ice cream and BOY was it ever good. The next day Nina and the kids did the same thing with the left over cherries and raspberries and had it with ice cream and it was delicious. Now I know a tasty treat to have with ice cream that is simple and easy to make!!
It rained on and off today so I stayed inside most of the day and read or went on the internet. I’m almost done my second book, I hope I can take my time reading this last book or else I won’t have anything else to read the rest of the time here, it took me just under a week to read this book, so I think it will take the same amount of time for the next book (I hope).
There is just over one week left here and still so much I want to do. This week I have a lot more free time since Moustapha is arriving tomorrow (Monday), so I will most likely go into town every day this week except Tuesday.
